No, no... I'm not doing a fanfic piece for this year's NaNoWrimo
I was about to let my novel sink into the abyss and just find something else to do for the remainder of the month--until next year, when I could try again. I had 12,200 words this morning, because I let my novel sit and fester for 5 whole days.
This morning, I woke up thinking, "I AM going to do this! I AM going to get caught up!" then, after two hours of writing, I thought, "OMG, how in the *hell* am I going to get this caught up?!" I needed nearly SIX THOUSAND WORDS, and the novel was going nowhere. Chris came down to get ready for work. He asked about my word count, I lamented, and he simply kissed my cheek and said, "You can do it. I will see you later."
And he was right. 12 hours later--I took a two-hour break to discuss !family drama! (can you say: repeat of the Kathy situation, only this time with my Nonna? Yes, really. Won't those damn people LEARN?!) with a cousin--and I have 5,800 words.
Now I have just over today's required word count of 18,333. How? I got descriptive. I described EVERYTHING my MC saw, what he was thinking, what other characters wore, right down to little items in the rooms he walked into on a tour of a gigantic office. I also had to research Thomas Edison and phonographs. Typically, I write just conversations, but finally getting out of my comfort zone helped me! I will NOT let this ship sink! I will continue... I will survive!
